The cabins are comfortable, clean with AC, good wc and showers!

The food is declious, served on time, multiple times a day, you will not be hungry nor would you have a better food experience anywhere else! A perfect 10/10 for the food, specially in the middle of nowhere!

I can’t speak to live aboard dive trips as this was my first. However, I would be surprised if you could find the type of care and service I experienced aboard the phinisi.

Great liveaboard - Thailand The Junk - An unforgettable experience! The dive sites were fantastic, even at the very start of the season. The advantage of going early was having fewer divers at the sites — even... read more the famous Richelieu Rock felt peaceful and uncrowded.
The Junk itself is a beautifully restored Chinese sailing vessel, once featured in a James Bond movie and other films. It’s full of charm and character, yet perfectly equipped and organized as a dive boat. Everything runs smoothly, and the setup works extremely well for divers.
The real highlight, though, is the crew. They were attentive to every detail, always friendly, and made the trip truly special. The food was outstanding — every meal was delicious and beautifully presented. Our dive guides were world-class, especially Jai, who was knowledgeable and fun to dive with. A special mention to our cruise director, Bernard, for his professionalism and warmth.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for an exceptional liveaboard diving experience in Thailand. I would happily return!

Once in a lifetime experience! - Here are a few of the many reasons why I would absolutely recommend booking a cruise on The Junk:
You will never go hungry, as a vegetarian I found every... read more meal delicious and nutritious. The food is notoriously incredible, served between every dive always fresh and delicious.
Snacks, water, coffee, electrolytes and sea sickness tables available 24/7.
After each dive, a crew member would bring you a lovely refresher (ginger tea, cold lychee soda or hot chocolate).
The level of cleanliness on board is of high standards. Crew clean the rooms every morning and the toilets are spotless.
The crew members are amazing, the atmosphere on the boat is very friendly and welcoming. Dive community is great especially, everyone is happy to be here and not crowded.
Safe for solo female traveller (like me & my bunk mate on board!), great first time experience.
The boat itself is one of the oldest live aboard in Thailand which is also famous for it’s use in films such as ‘The Man with a Golden Gun’
Vast variety of fish species (of course this is very dependent on factors out of our control but every dive I have seen something exciting)
Great equipment quality and availability on board I am so impressed.
Organisation is well structured which makes dive procedure easy to manage and flow well.
Dingy carries you to and from your dive site, with ample assistance from staff.
Professional service from crew with clear knowledge on diving.
No complaint, I am very satisfied and I highly encourage you to go with The Junk, from my experience this was exactly what I was looking for, great vibes all around.
Special thanks to BJ, our dive leader who has made this experience extra special. I am so glad to have done this and would do it again in a heart beat. Huge thank you to The Junk for being a part of my life!

Awesome boat, highly recommend - Went on the 4d/3n trip on the Junk. First of all the boat, crew and food is amazing. Loved the whole atmosphere of the boat and even though its age... read more its in pristine condition and modernized where needed. Everything was well organized, rooms were tidy and the ensuite bathroom was very functional. Before the first and after each dive great (freshly cooked) food was made available by the lovely kitchen crew. Rental gear was in good condition and our guide Victor was very knowledgeable and great spotter for cool wildlife while in the water. Diving itself was not that special due to it being the rainy season (low vis, not much coral), so be aware of that if you want to go in the low season. Furthermore, transport and contact prior to the trip was very easy and quick. So definitely recommend if you are looking to go on a chill liveaboard experience. Eat dive sleep repeat

Boarded the boat at 1830 for guest briefing on safety, tour of the boat and dive briefings. We were given our cabin number and our bags had already been placed in our cabin by the team, nice 🙂 Once settled the bell rang and we were served an incredible dinner as we set sail for the beautiful South Thailand dive sites, Koh Haa & Hin Daeng. When we woke up in the morning we were at Koh Haa for our first dive of the 14 dive trip and we were the only boat there - Amazing!
Light breakfast is served buffet style before dive 1, fruits, yoghurt, bread, cheese, toast, coffee, teas etc.. all prepared perfectly and nothing too heavy before the first dive
The dive sites are teeming with marine life with beautiful soft and hard corals - perfect for all levels of certified divers (this is a national park so non certified divers are prohibited from diving there). Super special start to the day, Koh Haa is simply stunning
After dive 1 each day, a hearty cooked breakfast was served up for everyone (diving is a hungry sport ) and we all sat sharing what we'd seen on the dive in the nice saloon area.. the guests onboard were great and I knew it was going to be a memorable trip when I found out 5 of the guests were return guests and had been on The Junk several times before
We sailed to Hin Daeng & Hin Muang, these are probably my favourite Southern Thailand dive sites, the marine life is ridiculous (in the best way), giant trevally, rainbow runners, batfish, octopus, Anenome fish, morays, box fish, snappers, glass fish, comet fish, the list goes on.. there is so much life it's so satisfying to see such healthy dive sites
We sailed back to Koh Haa to moor for the night and for diving the next day before heading to Phi Phi.
Weather was great with only a few showers (it is green season). Looking up when you're diving at the rain hitting the surface is really beautiful and who cares if it's raining, you're going to get wet anyway
The food on board was 5 star standard, 4 meals a day plus snacks in between.. beautifully presented and the best food by far compared to other liveaboards I've been on. The chefs and kitchen team ensure you don't go hungry ️
The Crew - attention to detail in everything, from helping you kit up, bringing your towel after diving, rinsing your kit, it was challenging to do anything yourself as they were just so helpful and made sure they delivered the best guest experience which they absolutely surpassed every day - Thank you
And lastly, the Cruise Director, Brian - from the moment the trip started to the moment we left we felt like we were part of The Junk family. Nothing was too much trouble, he looked after us, entertained us and prepared a quiz one night which was such fun with everyone joining in. He really made the trip fabulous and one I will never forget. The Junk's passion for delivering the best experience for the guests is evident by the service provided by Brian & the crew - Thank you team for an incredible trip, memories and new friends ️
I'll be back soon!

I really love the roomy... read more dive deck that has plenty of space to get ready and the outdoor communal area which is a great social area for eating and discussing your dives. A most wonderful experience diving the Similans and Richelieu Rock! - A most wonderful experience! The crew of The Junk were fantastic from tour leader to dive guides to deck hands to cooking and cleaning staff. The service was excellent. Food... read more was exceptionally good and served buffet style. Most of the offerings were Thai dishes with fruit and pastries for dessert. It was nice to be on a boat with a colorful history.
The cabins were comfortable with AC and a oscillating fan. The beds were raised above the floor allowing some space beneath to stow bags. Collapsible bags are best to take advantage of this aspect of the cabins. The lounge area where briefings are conducted and dinner served is rather tight and not air conditioned. Many divers opted to eat dinner out on the main deck in the open air and beneath a large tarp.
Air temperature and relative humidity could affect divers who are not accustomed to heat and humidity. For late March and early April, air temperature was high of 32 Celcius and low of 28 Celcius. Very high humidity. The only relief from it all was escaping to the cabin below deck.
Diving the Similan Islands was very good diving. From south to north the diving gradually became better. The night dives were underwhelming, unfortunately. And the crown jewel of the trip was Richelieu Rock, which was stellar!! A total of 19 dives on the trip with four at Richelieu.
I am happy to have opted for The Junk to dive Similan Islands and Richelieu Rock versus taking day boats from Tap Lamu or Khao Lak to visit the same sites.

And then Richelieu Rock just WOW. It’s an absolute must-dive: tiny seahorses, ghost pipefish, swarms of barracudas and trevallies, more anemones with clownfish than I’ve ever seen, plus porcelain crabs hiding everywhere. The coral gardens are simply mind-blowing.
Could’ve stayed there forever, seriously.
If you’re looking for sick dives, epic vibes, and memories for life – absolute recommendation!
