As is often the case,... read more it’s the people who make the difference and this team hit it out of the park! It was obvious that the crew cared for each other as well as us as the guests. Brian, who led the trip set a wonderful example by praising the performance of his crew while demonstrating a commitment to safety from the beginning. All the while, the whole team was positive, cheerful, and welcoming!

I had been looking at The Junk as a possibility for several years because I like interesting ships and boats. The story we heard was that she was built in 1962 and was initially a working boat hauling charcoal around Southeast Asia. Her story is long and interesting, including a cameo in the movie: The Man With The Golden Gun. It appears that the Junk has aged much better than the movie. Sure, the cabins are basic, but they served very well and we slept great. For me, the amazing experience of sailing on a wooden ship compensated for its quirks many times over.

The food was absolutely amazing, plentiful, and authentic. The little touches like tea or juice upon arrival post-dive were really special. Our dive master was top notch, organized and safe, as. In addition to being very fun! We were also particularly impressed with our deck boss who mixed our nitrox - he was very safety conscious, while still being a hoot!

In summary, I can’t recommend this experience highly enough - amazing diving with a top-notch team - Go Junk!

Having been on The Junk last year, my expectations were high as that was a trip I felt couldn't be topped but the last 7 days were just as fabulous (and a longer trip this time) so I felt like I'd won the jackpot again ️

As it was the last trip of the season, we sailed up to Surin islands for the incredibly insane diving at Richaliue Rock - wow, the best dive site in the Surin islands without a doubt.. as it was the last trip of the season, fewer boats were there so we had the dive sites to ourselves for 3 out of the 5 dives there - awesome experience watching the giant travellis, rainbow runners, long nose emperor fish, blue fin tuna and Barracuda hunting the bait balls of 1000s of fish.. to name just a few.. I feel incredibly lucky to have witnessed so much life at this thriving dive site.

Diving with such experienced divers was super fun and listening to their experiences and stories over dinner brought everyone together.

The crew on The Junk & The Phinisi are absolutely top notch, from Cruise Director Marco, the dive guides, chef Bee and assistant chefs, hosts, housekeeping, boat crew, engineer all so polite, welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them morning, noon or night.
